Club Sailing 13/06/21

Published 22:12 on 13 Jun 2021
The weekend saw five adults starting sailing and working towards their RYA level 1 and one sailor who took his level 1 at the start of the season doing a Level 2 course. Saturday sailing was challenging for all as the wind was far from kind and the majority had to learn their capsize drills very quickly. However they remained in good spirits and with support of our instructors made excellent progress.
Sunday saw them all return to more favorable sailing conditions allowing them to consolidate their learning from the previous day and develop their skills further. By lunchtime all but some of the theory had been demonstrated which was fortunate as the wind speed had increased quite dramatically with some substantial waves building on the lake.
Club members had completed the first race of the summer series in the morning but the afternoon race turned into a race of attrition with 6 boats starting and only 2 boats finishing all laps keeping the safety boats very busy. However good fun was had by all and we look forward to the race results.
