    The Kirkcarrion Cup 2025

The Kirkcarrion Cup, this year scheduled for Sunday 21 September, is our annual competition for double handed boats. Racing double handers successfully requires effective communication and teamwork, alongside good humour and preferably balance! It's a challenge but rewarding with it (and also much more sociable, especially if the wind disappears!) If you don't have a double handed boat of your own, that's no problem - we will have the club double handers available

I hope you're looking forward to what is shaping up to being a fabulous weekend of sailing and socialising, including the Grassholme Cup races, our AGM and summer BBQ (please remember to book tickets for the BBQ!). You don't need to be an experienced racer to take part and we encourage all to give it a go. For those new to dinghy racing, we intend to award a new beginner's

    Start Sailing

Warm weather, light winds and plenty of sunshine made learning to sail easy this last weekend. In all eight newcomers to the sport achieved their level one certificates, and left on Sunday evenings with big smiles on their faces. They are all determined to come back and refine their newly acquired skills. Saturday was spent in double handers with an instructor on board to start with. By mid-afternoon the instructors had jumped ship and were

On the Water - Butterknowle Scouts

The first of the Club's community sailing sessions to place last Saturday, as Butterknowle Scouts (Beavers Section) rocked up with a group of kids eager to try sailing for the first time and to earn their Stage 1 Scout Sailing Badge. After a learning about the importance of buoyancy aids and wearing the correct clothing while on the water, the section split into threes. The first group of beavers headed off in the powerboat

Say Hello to the Hartley 12

Meet the latest addition to the club fleet - the Hartley 12. For some time, the club has had feedback from our adult learner sailors that they struggle sailing the Picos (which are really designed for teenagers) and find the big doublehander Bahias too complex and powerful to use. We've been on the lookout for a solution and we think we've found one! The Hartley 12 is a very stable and forgiving

Out & About - New Season Begins

The new season has begun. On 6th April, members turned up to the Icebreaker to find it was... sunny! Those sailors who had thoroughly prepared for the elements soon found themselves overheating. A friendly (if shifty) breeze blew throughout the day, making for some tight tactical racing. Hot broth was waiting in the clubhouse for the hungry sailors at lunch time - our thanks to Andrew and Laura H. Mila also took the opportunity

First watersports of 2025 and Racing Programme Released

This Sunday 6 April marks the beginning of the 2025 watersports season. Massive thanks are due to all the volunteers who helped out with our work parties, getting the club, grounds and boats ready for the season. It's shaping up to be lovely sunny weather with a gentle breeze (although I can't promise warm water at this time of year!). Whether you want to sail or paddle, please come and join in!

    2025 Membership Renewals

2025 is here, and that means we are moving towards the sailing season. As such, membership renewals have now gone live - and this year we are making some changes. There's no getting away from the fact membership fees have gone up in recent years in response to rising costs. However, we want sailing (and other watersports) to remain affordable. We've therefore added the option to pay your membership fee monthly by Direct Debit,
