Successful UTASS visit 28/07/21

We were very close to cancelling the event on Wednesday as there was seemingly so much against our success.
The previous Sunday's training session demonstrated the difficulties of launching and recovering of the Pico dinghies owing to very low water levels
Heavy showers and lightning were forecast. Larger numbers of UTASS children than expected were due to attend.
On the day, although there was disappointment that they would not be sailing, we managed to get the children afloat in the safety boats.
The children aged between 8 and 12 clearly enjoyed the trip to the end of the lake and on return they were able to take turns sailing the Pico dinghy albeit on dry land.
The UTASS team did us proud with their barbecue. Macfarlanes supplied lashings of beefburgers and bangers. Probably the best BBQ food I have had.
By the end of the evening I think the club's team of 10 were feeling that we had done the best we could and the kids had had a good experience. I think that when you see the photographs you will agree with that.
It is they and the UTASS team who made the evening a success. Thank you all for your brilliant efforts.
Let's hope that next year we can invite them back nearer to the traditional mid-summer sail for our real club experience which should involve getting even wetter.
