Flying Finn

Wow, today at Grassholme was quite exciting. A moderate to stiff south westerly breeze enticed some onto the water. Others having  studied the weather forecast decided that doing work on shore was more to their liking. By the time Richard, Finn and Ian were ready to go the wind had settled to a challenging force four to five. Richard, with Finn, launched first in Richards Laser EPS. Closely shadowed by the safety boat they fizzed across the water sending spray in all directions. It made for spectacular spectating for the workers ashore. Not surprisingly they were soon exhausted (but happy) and by Teesdale standards an early lunch was taken.
After lunch they were out on the water again, but the wind had if anything strengthened and Ian said that it was very difficult to control his boat in the waves. Unfortunately the wind found a weakness in the bow fitting on the EPS and Richard and Finn were dismasted bringing the fun and games on the water to an end for this week.
Meanwhile the shore party had cleared the paths of overgrowing grass, and moved on to creating a new garden boat, to replace the rather ugly yellow Dory by the club entrance. When finished it will have a mast so that we can fly a flag that can be seen from the road on sailing days and at open events.
