Paddlesports - Rules & Guidelines

These rules and guidelines apply to any club member or visitor to Teesdale SWC who uses Stand-up Paddleboards, Kayaks, Canoes, or any variation thereof.

General Rules and Guidelines

Rules

  • Buoyancy aids must be worn when near to and on the water. Visitors without buoyancy aids should borrow one from the club stock for the duration of their visit.
  • Wetsuits/drysuits must be worn in April and May.
  • Shoes/boots must be worn at all times due to the potential for sharp objects on the beach.
  • Paddlesports craft must not be launched in winds greater than F3 (12 mph).
  • Club members must follow the 'Buddy Boating' rules and guidelines when the Safety Boat is not operating. Non-members are not permitted to launch when the Safety Boat is not operating.

Guidelines

  • When using SUPs, where fitted, please use a Safety Leash.
  • Get on/off in knee deep water.
  • Kneel or sit when in shallow water, or wear a helmet.
  • Although not required outside of April-May, wetsuits are advised throughout the year when temperatures are cold - moderate.
  • Carry a whistle to attract attention in case of emergency.

Club Kit Rules and Guidelines

Rules

  • Club SUPs and Kayaks are only for the use of Club Members and their guests. Day visitors may not use club Club SUPs and Kayaks but are welcome to launch their own craft.
  • Do not run Club SUPs/Kayaks aground at speed. The Club paddlesports kit was purchased with grant money and cannot be easily replaced if damaged.
  • After use, return the Club SUPs and Kayaks (plus any other kit borrowed) to where it came from.

Guidelines

  • Inflate Club SUPs to a minimum of 15 psi before use.
  • Members should not 'hog' the club boards/kayaks, let others have a go.
  • After use deflate the Club SUPs to below 13 psi to allow for expansion in hot weather.
