29th August 2021, 10:00 - 16:00

Racing and Informal Sailing - All Welcome

Grassholme Cup

The Grassholme Cup is taking place next weekend on 28th and 29th August. This is the club's eagerly anticipated racing event of the year and it would be brilliant to see as many members at the club as possible. It would also be wonderful to see the new juniors who have come through the Onboard Club come along and try out racing in this friendly, club competition. Thankfully the water level has come up a long way so it should be possible for all boats to launch with relative ease.

This year we are trying to expand the competition a little. The Grassholme Cup will be taking place over two days with a BBQ to follow the last race. Additionally two new prizes have been donated. One for the best placed junior (under 16) in the Grassholme Cup, and the other for the best placed senior (50+) in the competition. These, along with the main prize, will be awarded during the BBQ so make sure you stick around to find out what happened!

If you haven't already, you can sign up using this link: Teesdale Sailing and Watersports Club : BBQ (tdswc.org.uk)

Race Details

There will be five races taking place. Two races on Saturday and three races on Sunday. There will be three races to count, so you do not need to do both days in order to take part. Just doing the three Sunday races will be enough. However, you will not get the benefit of discards to discount your worst results if you only complete three races. If you complete all five races you will get two discards (so your best three results will be used to determine your place). If you complete four races you will get one discard.

Saturday's races will start from 2:00pm and be back to back. Although the racing kicks off in the afternoon please feel free to come along in the morning for a cruise as well. Sunday's races will start at the normal times of 11:30am for the morning race and 2:00pm for the afternoon races.

Please make sure that you sign on for the races with the OOD before heading onto the water, including with details of the type of sail you are using and its number if relevant. For example, if you are sailing a Laser are you using a Radial or Standard sail? Signing on helps me ensure the race results are fair and accurate with the right handicaps applied.

Also please try to book club boats in advance if you plan to sail one. Club boats can be booked here: Teesdale Sailing and Watersports Club : Club boats (tdswc.org.uk). If you have any difficulties with this please get in touch with the committee so we can try and get you sorted.
